Salinas - Sal Y Sol
The runway of Ibiza airport runs parallel to the wonder that is Salinas. So as you come in to land, you get a flamingo's eye glimpse of this fascinating area of the island. It may be the soft sand, the crystal clear water, an all dayer with Jon at Sa Trinxa or the primal urge to bathe beneath the sun's rays wearing absolutely nothing that brings you here first. But the truth is, there is a another side to Salinas that is baring all just a few minutes walk from the playa.
It's a busy road in summer season that takes you to the beauty of Salinas, yet by pulling over and taking just a few steps like we did many years ago and still do today, you leave all things modern behind and are met with the exquisite expanse of the sectional salt flats, mountains ranges of the bright white final product and the opportunity to soak up thousands of years of this prime area of salt mining production which has been in operation since the 5th century BC. Surrounded by rich pine forests, this has a number of annual winged visitors coming in to land being a main migration corridor between Europe and Africa, the most famous of which is a pink and elegant long legged beauty.
Also along the shore side is the church of Sant Francesc de s'Estany which was built for the salt workers which now houses a wonderful museum in the former rectors home and is watched over 24/7 by the monument to the Salinero / salt workers by Pedro Juan Hormigo. We have spent many quiet moments of reflection here to and from the beach wandering the dirt tracks. Not as quiet as the olden days before the children arrived, but still, it's hard not to be silenced by its beauty so there is always hope. Sol y sal - a sublime combination.
*As silk is a natural fibre, colours may vary slightly between batches of our Ibiza scarves and also compared to how they appear on screens. Any variations in the weave of the fabric are not to be considered as defects but a natural characteristic.
